These are only a small snippet of some of the quality habits that successful athletes build around themselves in order to fulfil their potential.
The off-season is a perfect time to reflect productively on what went well during your season and what needs to be improved – without the pressure of impending competitions
Preparation / Punctuality:
The athletes who hit 90%+ of their planned sessions are the ones who sit down and review their training plan a few days in advance. These athletes not only hit the sessions, but hit them with the best understanding they have possible for the micro session. The really organized ones even map out their food and nutrition for the week ahead, And why not? If we know what is ahead we should plan our fuel accordingly.
Precision Focus:
Once we’re training, we’re training. We have clear intentions and purposes behind the reps and sets we put into action. We aim to eliminate movement without purpose and a lethargic approach to training. Every rep is an opportunity to grow / develop from its intention. Be purposeful in your approach and be present in the moment. Minimize distractions as much as possible so you’re able to keep the main thing, the main thing.
Time Management:
Understanding what is serving you and what is leeching off of you. Identifying these daily habits will lead to a quality understanding of where your time is best spent. In the modern world, we often hear, “it only takes 10 minutes”. 6 of these actions are an hour. If it isn’t serving you a positive outcome toward your goals, then it needs to be reconsidered worthy of you spending your time on it. Think of your time as a currency. You only have a limited amount. How would you choose to spend it?
Humility and Discipline:
Another key element to how these athletes complete their training is not being distracted by the training of those in competition with them OR what they see online. Again it comes down to them minimizing distractions but essentially trusting in their very own processes that they will achieve their outcome by being diligent on THEIR daily tasks. Ego is the enemy and it will squander your best potential results. You’re better off learning to strategize with your team the most applicable game plan for yourself and develop the humility and discipline to carry it out at ALL times.
Self-awareness
Effective athletes easily identify when their bodies are a little beat up. When there is a good camp around the athlete(s), there is enough positive communication within the camp to appropriately pull-back on certain training components for the necessary timeframes. This can be as simple as fatigue levels indicating the need of another rest day or we can apply science behind it by monitoring HR or HRV to avoid overtraining and injury.
